Elementary schools are arranged in
clusters. Students are assigned to a cluster based on the home address. Parents must complete an application for cluster schools, ranking their preferences. Siblings are kept together in the cluster when the parent indicates the sibling's school as a 1st choice on the application. Transportation is provided to schools within the cluster.

Choice Zone:
Students transitioning to kindergarten, students new to JCPS, or current students with a change of address who live in the Choice Zone will have two options – one close to home and one far away. An application is required to make the close to home or far away selection. Students will not have a default school selection. Parents/guardians will rank the list of schools in their zone.

• Magnet programs focus on a specific subject or provide a specialized learning environment. Students who are accepted into a magnet program become full-time students of the school that offers it and attend the school for all classes, not just the magnet program classes. Transportation is provided for students who reside in the boundary for the program.
• Optional programs are small, specialized programs within a school. Students who live outside the school's attendance area may apply, but JCPS does not provide transportation for these students.
• Magnet programs focus on a specific subject or provide a specialized learning environment. Students who are accepted into a magnet program become full-time students of the school that offers it and attend the school for all classes, not just the magnet program classes. Transportation is provided for students who reside in the boundary for the program.

• The Academies of Louisville are career-themed learning communities within 15 JCPS high schools that allow all students to have more hands-on experiences, work with business partners, and connect what they’re learning in core subjects to the real world. Students do not need to apply to an Academies of Louisville school program if it is their zoned school. If it is a school within their network, an application to the school is required. Transportation will be provided to students if the school of choice is their zoned school or a school within their network.
