Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC )
 

Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) Certification courses are prepared and conducted by MSD. These classes provide information, training and certification as required by the Louisville and Jefferson County Metro Government Code of Ordinances relating to Erosion Control. You can be certified in two different categories; Single-Lot Residential Construction or Demolition and Contractor.

The certifications are valid for three years or until the course content is significantly modified due to ordinance modification or additional State or Federal requirements.

Course Descriptions

  • MSD Online Home Builder (Single-Lot Residential Construction or Demolition) Training and Certification:
    This online course is designed for the Permittee and/or the on-site responsible personnel tasked with the installation, maintenance and inspection of best management practices. The course will outline the regulations required to comply with the EPSC Ordinance that are associated with the construction or demolition of residential principle and accessory structures on individual lots. Given the interactive nature of the course, participants are encouraged to take notes. Your notes can be used for the certification quizzes during the presentation.

  • MSD Online Contractor Training and Certification:
    This online course is designed for the Contractor and the on-site responsible personnel tasked with the installation, maintenance and inspection of best management practices required to comply with the EPSC Ordinance related to all other types of land disturbance not associated with residential construction or demolition activities. Given the interactive nature of the course, participants are encouraged to take notes. Your notes can be used for the certification quizzes during the presentation.

  • MSD – Certified Plan Reviewer/Preparer EPSC Training and Certification
    This course explains the requirements of the ordinance and how to use the design aids prepared by MSD. The design aids allow the designer to accurately design EPSC measures that meet the 80% removal required by the ordinance. Please note: Licensed professional engineers and landscape architects are not required to take this course.

Who am I?

  • Permittee: Person who owns or is in control of the land who directly allows land disturbance activity to take place.
  • On-Site Responsible Personnel: Any foreman, superintendent or project engineer in charge of on-site clearing, grading or sediment control. This person shall be onsite during construction or development activity and in operational control over land disturbance activity & provide continuous inspections.
